The Whole Thing
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts- Aristotle
The Punch is derived from the sum of its parts. Put the fascial connections together and you have a beautifully leveraged punch.
To do this in motion a greater task. Training must reflect the interconnectedness of all the body’s movements to produce the desired outcome. Because, in the end, we all want to be standing looking at our person on the canvas.
The knock out punch is self- mastery in the ring. The ability to hone in the timing of the weight shift to create power takes immense body control.
Staggered stance- center of gravity on lock- perfecting the start up and deceleration as the punch is wrung out of the body.
One must train that wound up- wrung out feeling in multiple scenarios and under duress for the neuromuscular patterns to hold….Training must constantly question itself without interrupting the flow of testing the methodology. The never ending cycle of practice and implementation equalling results.
If you want to get good at boxing, you box……you discover what movements hinder your ability to box and you use your training to address each obstacle. You master your mind-body mechanisms in and out of the ring to achieve the ability to perform as you wish. Training should be filled with opportunities to replicate the ring without the punishment so you can handle higher adrenaline induced states with calm alertness.
Training driven by combining the sum of the parts for maximum output, minimal effort with help you achieve self- mastery.
