Self-mastery

The history of North America as written by non-Natives is incomplete, for it is written by those who think they are conquerors. The conqueror is the person who looks outside himself to make order rather than making clear his own mind; therefore, all that he sees and speaks is based on the lies of pride and confusion

-Voices of Our Ancestors pg 17

Self- mastery does not involve the squashing of another. In the ring we do not really dominate the other….We dominate space when we are skilled….We take control of our reactions to our environments. We change our environment where needed to obtain our best possible position and implement what we have trained to do. We move into and through our fears, insecurities, doubts. When we are well trained and in control of ourselves we are victorious. When we are externally focused, we most assuredly lose, no matter the official decision from the judges……for external can never be claimed- it is not earned.

Self-mastery is internally motivated. We must be in a learning mindset…..one that observes and collects data- one not attached to meaning that slogs us into eternal ruts. A mind-set that allows clear headed thinking when under fire. It is not devoid of emotion for self-mastery is extreme passion….passion for being a human….being fallible….,malleable….ever forming—it is emotionally intelligent.
