We have an expertise problem in our culture. We think expertise is outside ourself, that there is one correct way to live and do things.
Life is truly an experiment.
In boxing there is not one style that is THE style. Boxing styles are expressions of personality. Boxing is the internal expressed externally. What might work for one person may be disastrous for another. The only way to find out what styles work for you is to risk failure and give everything a chance. To find success you must constantly fail, constantly make mistakes.
To find yourself, your authenticity, you must question yourself and others. You must try things on, risk being judged, risk being seen a phony, a fraud. You must gather as much information as you can so you can piece together what makes most sense for you.
In the ring, you need to listen to your reactions, your thoughts and movements. You have to listen to your opponent to understand where they come from. If you pay attention you will feel subtly feel the physical differences in your personalities.
You owe it to yourself and others to treat life like a wonderful experiment.
