This summer will forever be etched in my mind.
The gym survived the sluggish summer months that all gyms experience.
My most favorite athlete and most favorite person in the world was diagnosed with brain cancer.
My cohort lost his mother to illness and one of my boxers lost her nephew due to a hate crime. I watched kids I’ve coached for years go off to college and welcomed new kids into the gym.
I often wondered how deep are we gonna all have to dig, haven’t we all had our share of looking up from the canvas?
From this side of summer, we are all still in the thick of our experiences, but with new viewpoints. We have really learned what it means to be in someone’s corner and what it means to have someone in our corner. We have experienced vulnerability and strength at levels none of us thought possible.
Our gym community has stepped forward and taken on all the battles as if it was each person’s own battle.
I am feeling grateful for all the training boxing has provided me. I am grateful for the wisdom I have under my belt because of all the boxing rounds I’ve experienced preparing me for life.
September leads to October and our 1 year birthday. I’m grateful that we are all in a place to celebrate after such intense hardships, and celebrate we will. The planning is in the works and I can guarantee you it will be a blast and a wonderful celebration of community!!!! We will have sparring exhibitions, Poetry Slam bouts, food and best of all, YOU!
