NEW SCHEDULE SEPTEMBER 1st! (and we are almost a year old!!)

In 1 month we will be 1 year old!  I can hardly believe we are here.  We are implementing a new schedule Sept 1st!  Go to the Schedule page and check it out–The new schedule is below our current one.

When I go back to December of 2012, and remember where I’ve come from and look at my tracks, I can describe the journey comparable to a Himalayan mountain treck.  There were some ice fields, a couple of avalanches and certainly many slips and falls followed by some brilliant summit views!

Boxing has made me the person I am today.  It is the best sport I have ever encountered to teach me about my communication with others.  It’s taught me where I hold back from fear and where I’ve had too much wreckless abandon.  It’s given me a beautiful life and much more courage.

The best thing I have learned from starting this gym is that I create openings by making decisions and taking risks to see where the next move can be made.  I know that the key to growing, changing and learning new things is to set a goal, make a decision without knowing what the next step will be to reaching the goal.

Most of you know the story that I quit my last job not knowing what I was going to do.  I knew two things, 1.  I wanted to be a full time boxing coach and 2.  I wanted to coach Jen Hamann toward the Olympics.  Everything else was unknown.  But if I had waited for an opening to seem perfect, it would probably have been too late.

I first stood outside this space that is now Arcaro.  I looked through the window at the concrete shell and a deep serious knowing came over me and said, “this is going to be my gym.”  I thought I saw a straight line from this point to the outcome, but that is not even close to the truth.  I experienced so much turbulence and detours that I often doubted that knowing I originally felt.  I had to constantly remind myself while I felt afraid to keep moving, to let my hands go, to move my feet, to keep making decisions that would get me to this space that was going to be Arcaro.  Sometimes those decisions were looking at other spaces, and making other plans, but in the end everything did lead me to this outcome that I knew, 1208 East Jefferson St was going to be Arcaro Boxing Gym.

After this tremendous leap, I am finding the bravery to do this in other areas in life, including sparring.  With each and every time I practice setting the goal and making a decision not knowing what the next step is, I relax more and more and truly experience life.  And honestly, without all of you in the gym community, I couldn’t do it.

So, I’m going to leave this blog with some song lyrics dedicated to all of you that are a part of this community physically and virtually!

Clean Bandit-  No Place I’d Rather Be

We’re a thousand miles from comfort, we have traveled land and sea
But as long as you are with me, there’s no place I’d rather be
I would wait forever, exalted in the scene
As long as I am with you, my heart continues to beat

With every step we take, Kyoto to The Bay
Strolling so casually
We’re different and the same, get you another name
Switch up the batteries

If you gave me a chance I would take it
It’s a shot in the dark but I’ll make it
Know with all of your heart, you can’t shake me
When I am with you, there’s no place I’d rather be

We staked out on a mission to find our inner peace
Make it everlasting so nothing’s incomplete
It’s easy being with you, sacred simplicity
As long as we’re together, there’s no place I’d rather be

When I am with you, there’s no place I’d rather be
